A Curious Journey

Hello, I am Christina Grob. Walk with me as I explain my journey as becoming an artist from the very first steps. As both an artist and a Christian, you never truly stop learning and growing. As an artist, I am constantly learning and improving my technique, learning more about my art and myself as an individual, curious and eager to learn more about the unknown.

It Started with a Stick Figure...

This was the first drawing I have saved that I drew when I was in Pre-K. This is what sparked my passion to draw when I saw how fun it felt to capture the image of my mom picking flowers in a field. I had such a fun time creating it as a child that I was the last one to finish, spending much time focusing on the details of the flowers and grass. This was the beginning of my love for art.

Elementary School

I continued to draw, learning from my dad who is also an artist. I would always be inspired by his work, often watching him work in his studio doing work and admiring the precision of his inking and line art. I would ask for coloring pages to color in and help with his work on occasion, which has led me to future contributions in his art. This painting is a watercolor painting created when I was 10 years old, following one of my dad's lessons to paint a lighthouse and use watercolors.

Middle School

During my middle school years, my appreciation and understanding of art grew. Along with my knowledge of art, the world around me was changing as well. I realized how stressful the world can be and that not all things were "happy." My Psalm 23 sketches (shown in the slideshow of images to the left) had changed the hearts of some people. I remember my art teacher telling me one day after class how my sketches brought them to Christ. Whether or not my art was the only reason for this, hearing this encouraged me to continue drawing not just for myself, but for the sake of others. I was driven to show the world a new perspective and shine a new light on that which was dark and dim.

High School

My high school experience was not one that most would have had. Not only did I experience the aftermath of Covid-19 and adjusting to a schedule of quarantining, but my freshman year I was absent from classes for approximately six months. I was exposed to a lot of time with not much to do besides draw, learning more and improving my technique during those months and growing from that knowledge for future projects. I was able to take a pause from the world around me and sharpen the gift that God gave me. High school gave me the opportunity to use new mediums and tools I would not have used before, such as oil painting, photography, and photoshop. With these base skills, I was able to construct an AP Art Portfolio and will continue to share my art and illustrate the world from my perspective.

What's Next?

As I continue to learn more about art in college, Geneva Gallery will reflect my creative growth. Along with growing in my creativity, I will grow spiritually, too. I chose the name Geneva Gallery as it was my dad's first art gallery's name, as well as my middle name-- Christina Geneva Grob. My dad has always been the core inspiration for my creativity, sparking that initial interest when I was young. 1 Corinthians 2:9 is also a core motivation for me to continue drawing, as it is a verse that has stuck with me since I was ten years old. As we are unable to know or see that which God has planned for us, we must trust that he will guide us on the correct path and do all things through Christ who gives us strength. My art is not something I do just for myself, but for the sake of others to both inspire and encourage others to see the beautiful things that God has created and be a shining light on the shadows of the world. In this way, I will continuously grow spiritually and artistically, always learning something new and never reaching a stopping point.
